"content": "Welp, seeing the Painted Hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds, Oregon, when it's cloudy is better than not seeing it at all! I hope you get back there someday when the sun is out! The first time I stopped there in the late '70s, it had just been designated a national monument. All that was there was a survey stick with a small printed sign saying the place was now a monument and that all features were protected. Here's a shot from several years ago.
