I rented a U-Haul the other day. They insisted they needed a photo of my license uploaded to some random web site. Only after I did it did I notice a sign saying they could scan it on their equipment…presumably to the same web site.
Why is scanning and uploading IDs a thing at all? Seems like a truly bad idea…
