Israel Assassinates Second Senior Hezbollah Commander

An Israeli drone targeted a car east of the city of Tyre on Wednesday, killing a senior Hezbollah commander named Mohammed Naameh Nasser, known as Abu Naameh. He was the commander of the Aziz Unit responsible for the western sector of southern Lebanon. Another man in the car was severely injured and later died. This is the second senior Hezbollah commander to be assassinated, following the killing of Taleb Sami Abdullah, known as Abu Taleb, two weeks ago. The intensity of Israeli attacks has fluctuated over the past few days, with combat drones shelling the town square in Taybeh and Israeli artillery shelling the border town of Kfarkela. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the Israeli attacks and called on the international community to intervene. Lebanon is counting on the American-French initiative to prevent further escalation in the south of the country. A meeting is scheduled between the French envoy to Lebanon and the American envoy to discuss de-escalation. In response to the Israeli attacks, the deputy head of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, stated that a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza is the only way to achieve a ceasefire on the Lebanese border. He warned that if Israel launches a limited operation in Lebanon, Hezbollah's response will not be limited. Iran has heightened its support for Hezbollah in the face of a potential Israeli attack, but emphasized that it does not seek a regional war.
