You're not looking for snarky answers like "because corporations deserve fresh water more than humans do" I'm guessing...
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that water is used to offset what would otherwise be carbon usage, so whatever is going on, seems like they're just expending one limited resource in pursuit of looking like they aren't expending another. Fat lot of good it's all doing, though
