I totally agree. I always go for the open source alternative if one exists that meets my requirements, but it's not always possible.
If I you need to nail something together but you can't find an open-source hammer, you have three options:
- use your open-source screwdriver to try to bang the nails in
- use a closed-source hammer
- give up
