I just released a small but powerful open-source bridge between Zabbix and the Nostr protocol.
It’s called zabbix-nostr-dm, and it lets you send private encrypted alerts from Zabbix directly to your Nostr account via DM.Why?
Because sysadmin alerts shouldn’t rely on email, Slack, or other centralized solutions.
Nostr is censorship-resistant, lightweight, and privacy-first — so why not use it for critical notifications too? What it does:
🛎️ When Zabbix detects a problem, it sends a DM (kind: 4) to a chosen Nostr pubkey
🔐 The alert is encrypted end-to-end using NIP-04
🌐 The message is broadcast to your favorite Nostr relays via WebSocket
📲 You receive it on Damus, Amethyst, Iris, or your own self-hosted clientBuilt with:
Zabbix (Media Type: Script)
Node.js + nostr-tools
Shell scripts
Your
.env
config with a Nostr private key + relays🔓 100% MIT-licensed and open-source
🚀 Installs in a few minutes — full guide in the README:
👉 gitlab.tavux.tech/Tavux/nostr/zabbix-nostr-dmThis is ideal for:
🔧 Bitcoiners running nodes, relays, or infra who already live on Nostr
🧑💻 DevOps wanting to self-host alerts and drop email/SMS
🕵️♀️ Privacy-focused projects
🧪 People who just love pushing Nostr to new use cases
If you’re curious, clone it, try it, and tell me what you think.
And yes, feedback/patches welcome… by Nostr DM of course 😎
