What worked in the past isn't necessarily well suited for today. With that in mind:
-Don't get married until you're about 30 and never stop dating your wife.
-Choose your major carefully IF you go to college.
-Continue developing friendships, hobbies, and goals even after marriage.
-Protect your knees/back/etc. They don't last as long as you think they will.
-Live now but plan for a long future
