
Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the representative of the Ruler in the Al Ain region, received a delegation from the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, led by Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, the General Manager of the Agency. During the meeting, Sheikh Hazza was briefed on the Agency's current and future plans to support environmental protection efforts in the Emirate, reflecting its commitment to enhancing the environmental agenda of Abu Dhabi and contributing to sustainable development. Sheikh Hazza praised the Agency's role in promoting scientific research and continuous efforts to preserve the environmental heritage and conserve natural resources, solidifying the Emirate's position as a leader in environmental work, and achieving the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, to prioritize the environment as a vital component of building a more sustainable future for generations to come. Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, the General Manager of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, presented a brief overview of the Agency's strategic objectives, which focus on environmental protection and conservation of natural resources, as well as the promotion of sustainability. The Agency's efforts in managing the Zayed Environmental Reserve, which includes 19 natural reserves on land and sea across Abu Dhabi, were also highlighted, including the Hafeet National Park and the Arabian Oryx Natural Reserve, which aim to protect several endangered species. Sheikh Hazza was also briefed on the Agency's initiatives to preserve natural pastures and ensure the recovery of vegetation and promote biological diversity in Abu Dhabi, particularly in the Al Ain region, as well as the most important regulatory measures taken to protect these resources. The meeting also shed light on the importance of using the latest technologies, such as drones and artificial intelligence, in monitoring, evaluating, and rehabilitating natural vegetation and pastures. The delegation also presented a brief overview of the plans for the Genetic Resources Center in Al Ain, and its strategic objectives in preserving various plant species in the country, as well as the Agency's achievements in the field of groundwater management in the Emirate, which included several integrated programs to promote sustainability in their use. The delegation also presented the hydrogeological map of the UAE, which aims to manage natural resources efficiently and protect groundwater from over-extraction to ensure water security in the country. The delegation emphasized the Agency's commitment to supporting the Emirate's efforts to promote and develop circular economy initiatives through its role in sustainable waste management and developing policies and systems that ensure the realization of the ambitious vision for environmental sustainability. Sheikh Hazza was accompanied during this meeting by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
