WOW that is fascinating. It did cross my mind to read the original book instead of watching the movie so I am going to do that.
The Secrets of the Federal Reserve by Eustace Mullins covers that in detail as well.
As I understand it the thesis is essentially that a sound money with loans on interest are harder to pay back and the usury is actually amplified.
