hn thread to the article about the ugly code base:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41146239 maps with my experience in many cases but also the "solution NOW pls" orientation, being left free from all the software rituals, no silly design discussions going nowhere, being close to the customer who calls you personally to say thank you because you fixed their problem.. I just like when software actually does something useful and if it's weird after 20 years - it has earned it.
