The power outage affected tens of thousands of homes, farms, and companies in Ireland due to the storm "Bert" on Saturday, while some railway lines and roads were closed in Britain due to what meteorologists described as a "multi-hazard event". The UK Met Office issued yellow and amber warnings for wind, rain, snow, and ice across most of the United Kingdom. Images and videos on social media showed snow covering roads in some parts of Britain, while floodwaters submerged stopped cars in the town of "Killybegs" in County Donegal in neighboring Ireland. Jason Kelly, a senior meteorologist at the UK Met Office, said: "As we move into the first part of Saturday morning, the storm will start to affect parts of Scotland, North Wales, and North England, with a chance of heavy snowfall, especially over high ground." He added: "Storm Bert is a 'multi-hazard event', as it will bring snow and rain to Britain and strong winds for most of the week." The Irish Met Office issued a "red alert" for rain in counties Cork and Galway overnight. Heavy rain led to flooding in parts of the west coast of Ireland, making it impossible to travel on the roads. Irish Rail said some train services were suspended due to the weather. Irish utility company ESB Networks said that the strong winds accompanying the storm caused a power outage affecting 60,000 homes, farms, and businesses during the night, particularly in the western and northwestern parts of the country.
