I'm no expert in this, but it should be achievable that you can host your own repos and sync them to several other machines and they still be available under a single unique address, and still have a good UX.
Sourcehut and Codeberg are being the two most popular non-commerical Git forges out there, and it will be financially not viable to extend their services even further without at least a big part of users paying at least a tiny sum. But then, people rather choose AI-GitHub for free than spending a few bucks a month for an ethically run forge.
