No actually activity.published refers to the published field of the Announce event.
Just tried with a news article from 6 hours ago. Damus wouldn't show it in my timeline, even when I scroll down to the time. Until I kill the app and restart, at which point my relay hands it over. And it's shown at the top of my feed.
Maybe it's something about the sequencing of nostr events that confuses relays / clients?
