if advertisers rewarded users for their time and attention they might actually listen to the advert and not block it. With micropayments and splits, it’s possible for the advertiser to pay both the podcaster/ creator and also split a small percentage to the listener. It’s also a strong signal of intent if the user listens to 10% or 80% of the advert. By paying the user they know exactly when they stopped listening as they stop paying.
