I am upset that I have had to return to conventional toothpaste usage.

A friend of mine, who’s a dentist, told me that at a granular level, baking soda is made up of tons of tiny crystals.

Apparently, those crystals scratch the outer surface of your teeth: the enamel. Apparently also, enamel doesn’t regenerate, or, at least, not fast / fully.

Therefore, once that layer erodes, your teeth feels coarse.

So, yes, baking soda whitens your teeth because the crystals are more effective at scratching than the toothbrush, although at the expense of ruining your enamel.

If anyone knows of a home made (if natural even better) solution, I would be rather happy to listen to it.

Home made toothpaste recipe:

~ three tablespoons of baking soda.
~ three tablespoons spoons of extra virgin coconut oil.

Some claim that the sweet spot is 3:2 in favour of the oil. That’s up to you.

Then, add a few drops of essential oil of your preferred flavour if you need to.
