I see a lot of very valid and accurate complaints about the state of modern computing. Where I differ from them is only in the solution: I don’t believe there is one.

Specifically, and to clarify, I do not believe that modern computing can be saved. To use a medical analogy, the cancer is at stage 4, and there’s no stage 5.

Not only that, but perhaps more controversially, I also do not believe that modern computing *deserves* to be saved.

Better, in my opinion, to let it die - leave it to its inevitable collapse, and concentrate your energy on the things that are worthy of your time and energy. For me, that’s retrocomputing - not just old systems, but new ones built in a similar style.
