None of the below authors/books are really “obscure” in their countries, quite contrary, but for me they were totally unknown before discovered: Cathedral by Raymond Carver (a short story not necessarily the whole collection), The Art of Murder by J.C. Somoza, Alphabet by Inger Christensen.
