How much on the cheaper side? if you're way down the ladder, and in the US or somewhere else with tons of ex-corporate gear floating around, sometimes the used xeon workstations are still a better value than a new bottom end system with every corner imaginable cut, but not so future proofed, and power hungry, but damn ya can get in the front door for pocket change, and usually with tons of cores and ram.
