We have a very old crab apple tree in our garden, it's a gnarled old dame. Sadly we are fighting to keep it alive as there's far less rain these days to what came before.
Today I've catefully lifted the old soil from around the base and put a load of tree compost in its place with a light mulch over the top. It's all been well watered and I'll keep an eye on the area over winter in hope that it comes back full throttle in the spring, doubtful I know but at least we're trying.
