They didn't account for Apple's (and as a consequence all other maufacturers) failure to provide the benefits of Moore's law to their consumers. Even tho 1TB storage technology is cheap and easy in 2025, see how much the manufacturers will charge you to put it in a phone or any other prebuilt device with zero options for post sale upgrading.
