It's how I view my trauma responses as basically my brain's immune system, but ones that have overdeveloped into an autoimmune disorder. They were all protective measures that I gained in response to threats and harm I experienced. But the fact that I can't manage them and deescalate them in response to new information is the problem. My brain got TOO good at trying to match pattern to danger that now it doesn't know how to ever stop seeing danger and see safety instead.
