"content": "I recently discovered that CIELAB and other perceptual color spaces like Oklab don't handle brightness correctly for strongly saturated reds and blues. This is called the Helmholtz–Kohlrausch effect. \n\nThis can actually meaningfully impact operations like desaturation, if you care about accurately showing the perceived brightness of an image.\n\nI wrote a blog post on it: https://buff.ly/407qnYM\n\nhttps://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/113/828/482/536/663/368/original/e98e4545b48bfb1c.png\nhttps://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/113/828/482/564/547/253/original/62db7c72e4696fa4.png\nhttps://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/113/828/482/562/786/629/original/d689b787c4d49fc9.png",
