As a not quite savy enough person:
Don't. I hate everything about the lightning backend and cannot wait until it dies. You are gonna loose sats figuring it out. It's got a piss poor UX/UI in nearly all cases. Zapping people? Fine.
Running your own node? I'm probably never going to.
