I like artix, void (upstream supports i386 so thats a plus), or debian, but your choice in distro doesnt matter nearly as much as the actual software you run. o whatever youre comfortable with will most likely work
youll want to stay away from desktop environments like kde and gnome, as they are both insane hogs. I like xfce and its much more minimal compared to the latter 2 options
