This is going to sound like I'm making this up:
Most Black folk in the US know about the third verse of the national anthem that talks about murdering slaves.
Most white folk in US have never even heard of the third verse. They just... sing the first two.
Every now and then, some Black folk will suggest changing the anthem. They're immediately shouted down as unpatriotic, by people that either don't know or don't care about the third verse.
