Something many people are shocked to learn is that book contracts usually have a "morality clause" allowing the publisher to cancel the book if they do something offensive or illegal.

But it’s never about the contents of the book. (Every book offends someone!) Rather, it's for when an author does something awful in public, and does it in such a way that people will think the publisher agrees if they don't cut the author loose.
