if you go OG version, no mouse but a numberpad is kind of crucial. (I've kept numpad keyboards around just for DF!)
it is absolutely the best game ever made, no argument, no question. you should definitely watch some Let's Plays or something like that. all the wacky shit that happens is the best part but it can be hard to discern if you don't know what you're looking at because the UI is so absolutely insane lol
