I heard czech entrepreneurs to distinguish businesses as:
Na mliko (for milk) - to run forever, doing something very useful (and often fun for them)
Na maso (for meat) - to build fast and then sell at the right moment to the highest bidder, often exiting completely
Which is exactly what you're describing here in more detail.
I'm not sure Apple is playing a finite game with the openai integration. They might have gotten a deal from OAI that makes more sense for their infinite game than building the whole thing themselves. But I get the skepticism there, as they become kinda boring with their inovations and one would expect Steve Jobs to come up with a completely new way of thinking about AI, not just integrate already existing thing.
