For some people, having official recognition can make a difference to them- even though it changes nothing. The person I was speaking to wants the assessment so I suggested alternative ways to get that. All comes down to choice.
I did have a disability advisor suggest I try broccoli sprouts to ease autism.....still makes me laugh!
