Not just software, but hardware too. (I don't know how people can stand thinking they have to throw thousands to buy another from scratch every two years...)
In fact, I hate automatic updates altogether. Despite the fact that there are valid security updates, you just never know when something might go wrong with an update even on systems you can trust. But then, as the above points out, there are those like Microsoft and Apple who sneak in things like "AI" that people don't want and keep turning it back on even if you turn it off.
I wish there was a "security updates only" option on systems.
