It was also quite slow for several reasons, but not *much* more than other DEs. However, it made the grave mistake of trying to be user-friendly instead of only pandering to the most beardiest of neckbeards, so a lot of people started hating it because hating KDE was cool and made you look like a smart nerd.
But KDE, especially nowadays, is really, *really* good.
