Lawrence on Nostr: Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts has a totally stunning exhibit of John Singer ...
Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts has a totally stunning exhibit of John Singer Sargent’s portraits, through the lens of fashion (free to most students & faculty in Boston!) and it is a wonderful testament to good curation!
My fave moment: the Carmencita portrait next to the ACTUAL DRESS, which makes it clear both how much Sargent dictated his sitters’ appearance (he commissioned the dress) and how much he creatively re-interpreted those clothes when painting.
