After several recommendations, I tried phanpy. Looks "modern" as in, unreadable to me. Font too faint.
But it is enlargeable, which helps some. Playing with the settings, larger text size helps a lot. I'd also prefer slightly bolder, but that doesn't seem to be an option.
I'll continue to experiment....
