My basement is unheated, but does not get frost and it doesn't get a lot of light. I'll keep the soil slightly moist. So basically I am simulating winter conditions without frost. This should also work for other perennials with bulbs or rhizomes.
The plants that aren't geophytes are in a well-lit, cool hallway inside.
