this is the point when I like to remind people that computer scientists did this first, calling essentially _everything_ that involves machine learning "AI", I had AI classes available to me two plus decades ago, and it was a bullshit idea then. We were barely doing ML really, and even then very narrow focus.
Sorry, that's just one of my pet rants. We (people like me, computer science in particular) kind of did this to everybody. Or at least, we gave the grifters a really, really good excuse to use the term.
Any rate, totally agreed, we should definitely lean into taking this term back, and giving it a better definition. LLMs are only "AI" in the computer science sense; they have no anything that the layman would classify as "intelligence".
