I don't think that anything good in life happens quickly. If something good appears to have happened all of the sudden, I always suspect that there is an obscured path, but a path nonetheless that is long and often grueling leading up to it. Even for more deus ex machina type events like dramatic acts of charity.
Ultimately we are small creatures whose best hope for success is small, stubborn steps in a positive direction, in defiance of setbacks, which are often large and devastating when they finally reach us.
The human mind is a powerful tool for rationalization in favor of itself, and so I think we all, unless by conscious thought or depressive tendency can be tempted to think in terms of, "if only."
Nothing against you personally, of course. You may be correct, surely you know yourself better than the disembodied voice of bobby hill in your head as you read. It could just be massive cope from someone for whom, while life has gone well, it has rarely been directly attributable to my intent, but always to my actions, though I did not know their consequence.
