I have discovered the wonder that is gmane.io, and I see now that we lost something truly beautiful when we let usenet/NNTP/newsgroups get eaten up by the modern web.
Is anyone out there in the tildeverse still playing with this stuff? Stand alone, without connecting anything but local users, it seems like it would make an amazing alternative to a community discussion board/forum.
I know next to nothing about this stuff, and managed to get in and start poking around within seconds.
