The federal government will seek to create a national registry for undocumented immigrants to submit their personal information and, if they fail to do so, they will pay from fines to jail sentences. The registry would enroll people who have been in the country illegally since the age of 14. The Wall Street Journal initially reported the plan to create the registry, where people would be required to disclose their address and fingerprints and those who fail to do so could be fined up to $5,000 and sent to jail for up to six months.
