Ads are a bad mental model - the best mechanism of this model in the future will be avatar hijacking and full AI avatars that are fun, charismatic, and considered people by many, who also are acting in a way to persuade you based on the highest bidder. I’ve been writing and talking and building countermeasures to this for years.
