You might find this project interesting. It's about created a decentralized version of the web. It's called Handshake and sadly another coin is required to use it. Although it's PoW it's had not much reach and sadly grouped with Ethereum peeps in some way (from memory).
After Bitcoin, Satoshi wanted to reinvent the web. Namecoin I think it was... Handshake carries on the same values of Bitcoin in trying to take down the status quo of ICANN etc and replacing them with a public+private keypair to get domain ownership done. No more renting domains from corrupt organizations. Anyways I have a feeling it's not moving much anymore but I thought it was a very ambitious project with perhaps a link to your own write.
