I’m becoming a parent in the next few months.
With technology available at arms length, what are some clever ways to protect kids from the dark side of the webs?
Having had access to the internet from a young age, I know how easy it was even decades ago and how destructive it is and I’d like to help my child to be protected from at least passive exposure.

Considered at least setting up a DNS server at home to try block lookups for porn sites etc.

What else can I look at to restrict access? What commonly used software can be used on a Linux to protect my network / be a firewall?

Any tips or pointers or experience are welcome!

(Although I’m all for freedom of information, children need protection at younger ages)
