The big tech companies were building this type of infrastructure internally two decades ago out of necessity. That trend of abstracting away the physical layer always creates marginal waste, and that waste can be sold to smaller entities for straight profit. That business model evolution feels inevitable to me.
The only real surprising thing is that Apple and Meta haven't cashed in on this in the same way. (though Meta’s network layer makes it much harder)
