Back in the "old days", Altavista was a decent search engine for "technical things". Meaning engineering nerd stuff. Looking up specs for LM7805 volt regs, Durometer ratings of rubber mounts, etc. Yahoo, AskJeeves, Lycos were other options, perhaps not as techy. Google was always "vague" at the very least, but becoming more manipulative and deliberate in terms of "hits". They've had many years of practice...
