I watched Vanishing Point (1971) last night. I was curious, because it looked like a super cheesy movie, but has a high ranking.
The story itself is very "meh". HOWEVER, the execution of the storytelling (framing of shots, background sound effects, music, etc) are very top notch.
Someone knew what they were doing, and took it seriously (despite the lackluster story). It's obviously low-budget, which makes the quality even more amazing, since the makers weren't relying on a big budget to make it good.
Another interesting observation is that, even though it was filmed in 1970, it is VERY 70's, with almost no elements of the 60's (aside from a flashback to the 60's, and a desert biker's vibe to help).
If you're a movie buff, you'll want to see this, if not just for the camera shots alone.
