St Bartholomews Church, Lower Basildon, photographed today - Sony a7r3.

Built of flint and brick 700 years ago, close to the river Thames. Jethro Tull, the father of modern farming, has a memorial here but the whereabouts of his actual grave is unknown. There is a tragic statue of two brothers in swimming trunks who drowned in the river in 1886.

The church is a simple construction and was once a very prosperous parish in the fifteenth century, when parishioners grew rich from the local wool and corn trade.

In the photo you can see that part of the roof has been fitted with corrugated metal, in order to temporarily fix a falling roof.

I wonder if they accept bitcoin donations?

I shall be sharing some more photos from this outing in the days to come.
