I’ve selected the second image in this note’s carousel of the trees rather than the first image of the lichen cross section in the repost process
Lichens display the fungal ability to connect many plants together. Algae (the plant) are connected to the fungal partners in a lichen in the same way trees are connected by fungus in the forests. This relationship is millions of years old.
The forest is a lichen, only larger.
