Best is to skip ripping it out altogether. Smother it instead. A black silage tarp for a few weeks over the entire area works wonders to kill perennial weeds, grass, etc. Or layers of heavy cardboard covered with mulch. After a few weeks you can plant right into. Essentially you are carting off prime soil/organic material for nothing. Just smother it and let it decompose in place.
We have reclaimed 1000s of sqft of thick crabgrass / witchgrass using these methods.
