I volunteered and then worked part time on a farm where my now friends raise sheep chickens and now cattle. I helped slaughter chickens and got to talk shop with fellow farmers throughout the day. Took a permaculture design course read books including:
All Flesh is Grass by Gena Logsdon, The Art and Science of Grazing by Sarah Flack. Also lots of YouTube videos by people like Joel Saladin, Nature’s Always Right, Greg Judy, the Shepardess, and others. Also, in the process of finding sheep to purchase I’ve had many informative conversations with other shepherds who have helped me hone in on the style of management I want to implement.
