Christianity teaches personal responsibility, I'm not sure where you received the idea that it doesn't. Perhaps you have a bad taste because of Catholicism which is itself an inaccurate portrayal of Christianity.
However, I say it was a blessing from God that the Gospel was sent to your land. I would rather have the one and only true God on my side than to be damned to hell for believing in a man-made religion.
