Counter-intuitively discovered that scaling down a PNG image can double the file size! This happens if 1) the image was made of solid colours, and 2) when you resize you use interpolation to basically make the edges fuzzier. Turning off interpolation in the resize fixed it, but then it looked bad. I
ended up leaving it large. Wasn't expecting that..!
